The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Health and Social Care Practice is a one-year full-time higher education qualification designed for individuals who want to develop a career in health, social care, community services, or related professions. The programme combines academic study with practical experience, enabling students to develop the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required by employers across the health and care sector.

The programme is delivered through a diverse range of teaching and learning methods designed to actively engage students and develop both academic knowledge and professional skills. Delivery includes formal lectures, seminars, workshops, guest speaker sessions, blended learning activities, group work, online forums and individual tutorials, providing a stimulating and supportive learning environment. A key feature of the programme is a minimum of 225 hours of work placement or professional practice experience in a health, social care or community setting, allowing students to apply their learning in real-world environments and develop essential employability skills.
Assessment is designed to evaluate knowledge, understanding, and professional competence through a variety of methods, including coursework, examinations, presentations, reports, projects, and case study analysis. Students are encouraged to undertake independent study and research throughout the programme, developing the self-management and critical thinking skills required for higher education and employment.
